A 2011 graduate of the University of Huddersfield, BA Textile Crafts, specialising in Embroidery and dyeing. My degree show collection entitled 'Mapping Nature' was a collection of fabrics for interiors or fashion
Inspiration:I draw much of my inspiration from the natural world, particularly memorable locations. Throughout my final year at university, I took inspiration from the Country park near my home in Lancashire where I grew up.
Techniques:I combine machine and hand embroidery with hand-dyeing. My work often incorporate quilting methods, which are very non-traditional showing innovation.
During my final year at University I explored hand-dyeing methods with many, many experimentations resulting in a new technique being added to my abilities. Dyeing became a key part of my design process and because of this I have begun to work more with natural materials which has helped to develop my knowledge of material compositions and properties. Particular favourites to work with include linen, wool, cotton organdie, linen scrim, wool and cottons. I enjoy working with mixed compositions of fabric where natural and synthetic fibres are combined as these often produce some particularly interesting results once dyed.
